Hereford Cattle Dams

The Churchlands Estate has spent 30 years aiming for quality rather than quantity, aiming to be extremely selective about our genetic criteria. We have tried to introduce cows from leading herds to achieve this. By working with a comparatively small number of females, we have been able to focus on strict genetic selection. This is geared towards muscling, weight gain, milk production, dark colour and eye pigmentation.

Panmure 1 Plum T9 (P)

Granite

T9 needs very little introduction. She was Grand Champion Female and Reserve Supreme at the 2004 Royal Show and also UK Female of the Year and Polled Female of the Year the same year. She is the dam of Churchlands Estate 1 Batavia (P) the 2007 UK Hereford Bull of the Year and Polled Hereford Bull of the Year and Churchlands Estate 1 Capricornus (P) stock bull for Bill Wiggin in Herefordshire. Her latest son Churchlands Estate 1 Resolution (P) at six months looks like he might be the best of the lot.

Panmure 1 Plum R3 (P)

Panmure 1 Plum R3 (P)

The matriarch of the herd. "Old Plum", as she is affectionately known, has been a great breeding cow. Now in her tenth year she has produced two outstanding breeding bulls. Churchlands Estate 1 Gabriel (P) who was used both here and at Costhorpe with outstanding results and is now in Adam Cox’s herd in Lincolnshire and Churchlands Estate 1 Pegasus (P) who sired the reserve junior champion bull, the junior and reserve grand champion female and the best group of three by one sire at this year’s Royal Show. Not a bad effort from his first crop of calves! He’s doing a great job for Ernie Colledge and Ian Markham.

Romany 1 Mink 41H W42

Romany 1 Mink 41H W42

A lovely young cow who never puts a foot wrong. She calves herself, has lots of milk and is a pleasure to handle. By the great Canadian bull Glenlees Storm (P) and out of a Free Town Longfellow daughter, she has given us two nice heifers so far and we’re looking forward to this years calf - by Batavia – with great anticipation.

Cheerbrook 1 Nardia 3 (P)

Purchased to introduce some Hustler blood into the herd, she is a very nice and suckling her second calf at three years old. Last years heifer by Sarabande Cassidy was the best calf born in 2007 here at Churchlands by some margin and this years – by Batavia – looks another cracker. She’s heavily pigmented and passes it on and has terrific udder shape and teat placement.

Romany 1 Mink R5 B28 (P)

Romany 1 Mink R5 B28 (P)

Costhorpe Gallant, Remitall Monarch, Glenlees Storm and Free Town Longfellow, champions all and all appear in this super young female’s pedigree. Rearing her second calf at three years old. She had a successful show season last year and is an extremely attractive package.

Bottle Hill 1 Velvet 194

Bottle Hill 1 Velvet 194

Bottle Hill Velvet came to us in November 2007 from Mr Robson on Bottle Hill Farm in Cleveland as a show animal. She has a brilliant frame and has had 2 good calves with us, she is about to calve a third to CE1 Batavia which we look forwards to seeing. She is a lovely cow, and has the potential to have some big calves- hopefully we can develop them into future show animals for Churchlands.

Churchlands Estate Plum 70 & 71

Churchlands Estate Plum 70 Churchlands Estate Plum 71

70 & 71 started off as our show heifers, for 2011. They are twins by Panmure 1 Plum T9 and Romany 1 Cosmic, having some good blood coursing through them! Both have calved now to one of our home bred bulls – CE1 Ferdinand, and have produced some nice calves. Both have a nice bag of milk for their calves, which are growing nicely now. 70 & 71 were the twins from our first set of embryo transplants, of which we enjoyed a 100% success rate, with a 4/4 animals born alive and well, with no lost embryos. Both have a very placid nature, 70 being especially calm, and loving the top of her poll to be scratched.
